VISUAL ID PAPER - Due April 4th by Sunrise (6:53 am EDT)
Please Submit a WORD DOC. ATTACHMENT through COLLAB under the Assignments Tab.
Visual I.D. Writing Exercise
In place of a traditional paper, and continuing with the course theme of "Viewing America," you will CHOOSE FOUR VISUAL IDs FROM THE TEN PROVIDED. All images are relevant to materials presented in course readings, films, web sources, and lectures. For each write a page-long caption (250-300 Words) that dates, describes, and identifies the action and individuals presented within the context of the course.
Students should indicate the relevance of the images' subjects to broad themes discussed in the course, conducting close readings of the visual as they would with written passages or concepts presented for identification. Consider the audience for the caption an informed member of the general public encountering the image as part of a book or exhibit discussing America from 1940 to 1980. How does this image embody the broader public consciousness and/or problems of its moment?
Each image is to be treated individually of the others, though students may reference or compare Visual IDs if they discern relevant themes that link them. The images may include materials already presented to the class and visuals unfamiliar to students. Some may be obscure, while it is likely one or more may be iconic images from the era. Students are encouraged to creatively analyze the images and connect them to multiple course themes and resources, including lecture notes, readings, films, discussion sections, and CYOU research.
Paper is Due by Sunrise (6:53 am EDT), April 4th . Every day after will drop grade one step (i.e. B+ - B)
